The seeds for this influential rock band were planted when vocalist and guitarist David Hidalgo and drummer Louie Perez met at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles, CA. Bonding over their shared love of musical acts like Randy Newman and Ry Cooder, the two musicians began to spend time together and write songs. Even while Hidalgo and Perez were recording their own genre-bending music on a tape recorder, they were on the lookout for more band members. In 1973, Frank Gonzalez, Cesar Rosas and Conrad Lozano were enlisted to comprise the initial lineup of Los Lobos.

While Los Lobos performed and self-released music throughout the 1970s their major label debut came in 1984 with How Will the Wolf Survive? At that point, Los Lobos tickets came with the expectation to hear the band’s signature sound, influenced by a number of musical genres including traditional Mexican and rock music. Los Lobos received their first taste of international stardom in 1987, when their cover version of Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba” skyrocketed to the top of charts in the US, UK and worldwide.

After sixteen studio albums, a film score for the hit movie Desperado, three Grammy Awards and millions of records sold, Los Lobos show no signs of slowing down even after long ago cementing their incredible legacy.
