The Voodoo Glow Skulls formed in Riverside in 1988, playing their first gigs at private parties and Riverside’s Spanky’s Cafe. In 1990 the Voodoo Glow Skulls released their debut EP The Old of Tomorrow.
From 1991 onward the Voodoo Glow Skulls took a turn toward horn-infused ska-punk in the vein of groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Fishbone. By 1993 their efforts saw them signed to Dr. Strange Records, through which they released their debut album Who Is, This Is? later that year. They soon set off on their first international tour, playing several sold-out shows across Europe in particular.
