The state of West Virginia was formed during the Civil War, which placed Greenbrier County in WV. A fair was conducted in Lewisburg, WV in 1869. West Virginia declared it to be the official state fair in 1941 due to its popularity, and this was to be announced at the 1942 fair. The fair was canceled due to WWII without the state’s decision being announced. It resumed in 1946 and is now held yearly in mid-August.
