It replaced the Maclellan Gymnasium, which was a 4,000-seat gymnasium that is now used for women's volleyball and wrestling. Originally called UTC Arena, it was renamed to McKenzie Arena in February 2000 in honor of athletic supporters Toby and Brenda McKenzie. The arena opened on October 8, 1982 and was designed by Campbell and Associates.
