The Tech CU Arena began as the Sharks Ice San Jose indoor ice rink, which was first built in 1994. The largest such facility in the Western US, Sharks Ice San Jose serves as the home of San Jose State University’s men’s ice hockey team and as a training ground for the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. The venue also occasionally sees use for public ice skating, curling and broomball programs.
In 2020, the San Jose City Council voted to expand Sharks Ice San Jose by more than 200,000 square feet. The Technology Credit Union bought the naming rights to the expanded facility, and the Tech CU Arena was born. The arena is slated to host the 2024 All-Star Classic for the American Hockey League.
