This venue was built as a promise to bring cheap vaudeville acts to the island as well as a movie theater that would rival the cinemas located in Manhattan. During the 1940s until the late 1960s, the theatre was owned and operated by Fabian Theatres, a movie theater chain. The district offices were even inside the St. George Theatre until the group disbanded and the theatre was sold to another company, Victoria Theatres; a Staten Island theatre company where it briefly returned to its roots as a stage, not just a movie screen. From 1978 until 2004, there were multiple failed attempts to bring the theatre back to life as a nightclub, a dinner theatre and even an antique showroom. It wasn’t until Rosemary Cappozalo with the help of her daughters Luanne Sorrentino and Doreen Cugno who were able to bring the St. George Theatre back to its glory days of a performance hall.
