It first opened as a clay dirt track in 1948 and was converted to an asphalt racing surface in 1973. The track record was set in 2010 by Jeff Bloom in a 410-winged sprint car at a lap time of 9.908 seconds at an average lap speed of 90.835 miles per hour. This has led to the track becoming known at the World’s Fastest Quarter-Mile Oval.

The track races weekly with super late models and other classes competing during the events. The biggest race of the year is the annual Slinger Nationals featuring some of the best super-late model drivers in the country.
