The Rialto debuted in 1920 and was one of Tucson’s first movie theaters. It also presented Vaudeville acts, which were quite popular at the time. The first full-length movie to be shown at the theater was the 1920 silent Western The Toll Gate. The theater changed ownership to be run by Paramount-Publix in 1929, which renovated the theater significantly.

In 1995, it was bought by Paul Bear and Jeb Schoonover, who changed the name back to the Rialto and reopened it as a concert hall, featuring acts such as The Black Crowes, The White Stripes and others. The hall was bought by the City of Tucson in 2004. In April of 2005, the cinema was reopened.
