It was designed by the architecture firm Sink, Combs and Dethlefs with a construction cost of $4 million. The general contractor was Alliance Construction Solutions. It replaced their old stadium, Jackson Field. The stadium was named after Victor R. Nottingham, who spearheaded the project and raised the entire amount of $4 million from private donations.
