It was constructed in the 1920s as a vaudeville space and then became a movie palace. It is a Spanish Renaissance Revival-style brick building with terra cotta decorations. It’s four stories tall and features a blue, red and cream color palette. The building was saved from demolition in 1959 and restored between 1998 to 2000.
The stage is 56 by 57 feet and has some historically restored touches. Some of those touches include a main stage curtain. The South Bend Symphony Orchestra calls the Morris Performing Arts Center home. The venue also hosts Broadway shows like “Rent,” Disney’s “The Lion King” and “Cats.” It also features concerts and other special events.
