Building began on the large main lodge for the Multnomah County Poor Farm in 1911 along with the dismantlement of the Cedars. A decade later the materials for the Cedars was used to construct the building that Ruby’s Spa occupies. The Poor Farm became an important institution during the Great Depression, housing and feeding over 600 people at the facility. The longest-term resident of the facility is thought to have been Chris Boyd, who stayed at the Poor Farm from 1931 to 1963.

The facility was abandoned for decades until the 1990s when renovations were performed on the property.
