It is the home court of the University of Northern Iowa’s Panthers’ basketball and women’s volleyball teams. The Panthers compete in the Missouri Valley Conference of the NCAA Division I FCS where they see tough competition such as the Indian State University Sycamores, the Valparaiso University Beacons and the Bradley University Braves.
The McLeod Center broke ground in the fall of 2004 and opened two years later on November 18, 2006. The arena was designed by the architectural firms HLKB Architecture and Crawford Architects with a construction cost of $26 million. The new facility replaced the UNI-Dome and is located at the western end of campus. The arena has a capacity of a little over 7,000 spectators and it has multiple surfaces depending on the event that is happening.
