Experience a great show with Lebreton Flats tickets. Lebreton Flats, which also has the spelling LeBreton Flats, is an area in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in Somerset Ward. It is bordered on the west and north by the Ottawa river as it opens up into Nepean Bay. The area was originally residential but now the area is mostly taken up by the Canadian War Museum and the National Holocaust Monument.
The area takes its name from war hero and one of Nepean Township’s original settlers Lieutenant John LeBreton, who bought the area in 1820. The township grew into a mixed community and was part of the lumber economy that developed from the local Chaudiere and Victoria Islands, which brought in a railroad and other industries.
Be entertained at a historic venue with Lebreton Flats tickets. The Great Fire of 1900, which had begun in Hull but crossed the river with the great stacks of stacked lumber all around the area, decimated the town, burning down many homes and businesses. As part of the rebuilding, the lumber barons moved up into Ottawa proper, leaving the Flats for the workers.
In the 1960s, much residential area was expropriated from the residents with artist Ralph Wallace Burton documenting the events with oil paintings now on display at Ottawa City Hall, working at times just ahead of the demolition. A revitalization of the city began with the creation of the Canadian War Museum in 2005.
Lebreton Flats now hosts the annual Ottawa Bluesfest music festival each year in summer. In 2022, Canada will be celebrated in Lebreton Flats for the first time.
