It remained a multiplex until the 1970s when the auditorium flooded by Hurricane Agnes and had to shut down. During the 1980s, the complex sat empty, but was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Finally, after local support from businesses and theatre patrons, the theatre reopened as the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts. Today, the hall is used as a multipurpose events venue featuring Broadway shows like Million Dollar Quartet and the Color Purple, as well as, concerts by Martina McBride and the Beach Boys.
