Opening on September 28, 1974, Centennial Bank Stadium held its first game, even though construction hadn't completely finished. The game was against the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech, where the Red Wolves suffered a devastating loss of 21-7. Their first victory game a week later against Eastern Michigan University. The stadium was designed by the architectural firm Brackett-Krennerich and the construction cost was $2.5 million.
