The stadium debuted in 1936 and was initially the home of the Wausau Lumberjacks from 1936 to 1942 and was initially affiliated with the Cleveland Indians in 1936 and 1937 as part of the Northern League. In 1940, the team changed affiliations to the Philadelphia Phillies until 1942, when the Indians again became their major league affiliate. The Lumberjacks again made Athletic Park their home from 1946 to 1949 and were mainly the minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Browns.
