The inaugural exhibition shown was American Portraits of the Sixties and Seventies, which featured works by various artists, including Chuck Close, Richard Avedon, Andy Warhol and others. A broad and diverse array of exhibitions was staged for the first three years, including one-person shows by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg.
