It is the home of the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils football team. The Blue Devils compete in the Northeast Conference of the NCAA Division FCS, where they play against such schools as Long Island University, Merrimack College and St. Francis College to name just a few. The stadium also serves the men's and women's lacrosse teams as well. In 2012, it played host to the Connecticut Constitution of the American Ultimate Disc League.

Arute Field broke ground on November 13, 1998, and was finished exactly two years later, when it opened on November 11, 2000. This stadium has been torn down and rebuilt three times. The first time it stood where now the Elihu Burritt Library stands. It was then moved where it resides today in the late 60s. It was built by Jack Arute, the state's largest construction company owner, who wanted the first field to take on his family's name.
