His music career really began rolling when in 1985 he and bassist Sean Yseult co-founded the band White Zombie, soon releasing their first two studio albums, 1987’s Soul-Crusher and then 1989’s Make Them Die Slowly. It would be their 1992 major-label debut, La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1, that would officially launch them to prominence, with the album selling over two million copies in the US.

In 1998, his debut solo studio album, Hellbilly Deluxe, would sell over three million copies worldwide, while his second studio album, The Sinister Urge, became his second platinum album in the US.
