Band leader Manuel Gagneux created the group’s blend of sound inspired by his mother’s Afican American roots and the popularity of heavy metal culture of Switzerland. In 2014, Gahneux produced the group’s self-titled demo which debuted on Bandcamp that same year. In 2016, the band released their first full-length album, Devil is Fine, which also debuted on Bandcamp. The album quickly gained critical acclaim from Rolling Stone and other music critics.
By 2017, Zeal and Ardor added musicians Denis Wagner, Marc Obrist, Tiziano Volante, Mia Rafaela Dieu and Marco Von Allmen to the group’s lineup. In 2018, the newly formed group released the studio album Stranger Fruit. Since then, the group have gone on to tour with groups Prophets of Rage, Baroness and Deafheaven. They have also headlined many of the world’s top music festivals like Download Festival, Hellfest and Montreux Jazz Festival. See the group perform live near your city later this year.
