Starrcade is a professional wrestling event that was created by the National Wrestling Alliance and originally promoted by Jim Crockett Promotions and World Championship Wrestling. The original Starrcade was held in 1983 and saw Ric Flair defeat Harley Race in a steel cage for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. The first five editions of Starrcade were held by JCP before that company became WCW in 1988. WCW held their final edition of Starrcade in 2000 before being purchased by WWE in 2001.

The Starrcade event lay dormant until WWE resurrected the event in 2017 as a non-televised house show featuring wrestlers from the SmackDown brand. Similar to the first Starrcade, the main event was a steel cage match between AJ Styles and Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship. Starting in 2018, Starrcade became an annual event that was televised as a special on the WWE Network featuring WWE superstars from both Raw and SmackDown.
