Watch classic music as it stretches out of its comfort zone with Wolfgang Sessions tickets. The annual WolfGANG sessions are presented by the National Arts Centre Orchestra, or NACO, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada with Musical Director Alexander Shelley. The WolfGANG Sessions presents a mix of contemporary and independent classical composers collaborating with NAC Orchestra musicians to expand the scope of classical music.
Upcoming and past works performed include Canadian guitarist and composer Andrew Staniland’s composition Allusions for Oboe and Clarinet. The piece was commissioned by the National Arts Centre and the Ottawa Chamberfest and is performed by Sean Rice, Second Clarinet and Bass Clarinet for the NACO, and Anna Peterson, the Second Oboe and English Horn for the NACO.

Ottawa composer Kelly-Marie Murphy created Sonata for oboe and piano, showcasing Charles “Chip” Hamann, the NACO’s Principal Oboe. New Brunswick composer Simon Bourget’s new composition Elegie was commissioned by Ottawa’s Chamberfest.
Avant-garde Dutch classical composer Jacob ter Veldhuis has created The Garden of Love, which is inspired by the poem by William Blake. The soundtrack mentioned in the title is a mix of spoken word and birdsong along with ethereal instruments such as the harpsichord as background to the oboe solo. Also performed is Indian-American composer Reena Esmail’s Tuttarana for brass quintet.
