The Brooklyn-based band was originally formed in 2010 by long-time friends Molly Hamilton and Michael Stasiak, who had known each other since their teenage years. The band released their self-titled debut album in August 2011 to critical acclaim, where Hamilton's lilting melodies and Thomas' stiff-legged, articulate riffs were particularly praised. Showcasing a style that has been regarded to reside somewhere in between Ennio Morricone, Cowboy Junkies and Neil Young, Widowspeak tickets would rapidly become a must-have for music fans of all orientations.

However, upon the departure of Stasiak and the subsequent addition of Jano and Muse, the group continued exploring their evolving sound. This was immediately apparent in their sophomore album, Almanac, which showed them utilize a blend of mariachi, spaghetti western soundtracks and ‘90s sad-rock to expand upon the hazy, "Gun Shy"-slinging pop Americana style that they originally founded themselves on. Eventually, their music became more polished and eclectic, with albums such as 2015's All Yours leaning more into their velvety country and classic rock tendencies, while 2017's Expect the Best employing a heavier and more aggressive style. With 2020's chiller yet politically oriented Plum, Widowspeak fully demonstrated the full maturation of their sound, so be sure to watch them live and experience for yourself why they are considered one of the hottest rising stars in the indie-rock music scene.
