The musician was born in New Orleans in 1943 and began his musical career at a young age. As a teenager, he was invited to play with Lee Sorsey’s band, and in the mid-1960s he formed his own band called All Fools Band. This group played in clubs around New Orleans and allowed the singer to establish himself in the area’s music scene.
In the 1970s, he joined Johnny Adams’ band, which is where his career really jump-started. He played with the band for 20 years, touring with them and performing on records, while also building his solo repertoire at the same time. Towards the end of the decade, he formed his own band called The Roadmasters.
The singer released his debut solo album, Rainin’ In My Life, in 1981 under the local label Hep’ Me. He has released 12 additional albums since then, the thirteenth being his 2018 release My Future Is My Past.
