The video garnered over 175 million views in just a few short months and earned the praise of Gotye and Kimbra themselves.

The “Somebody That I Used to Know” video featured all five members of Walk Off the Earth playing the same guitar simultaneously. Walk Off the Earth tickets rose in demand as the group was featured on Ellen DeGenerous’ television show thanks to the novel concept and huge success of the video. The group signed a record deal with Columbia Records shortly afterward.

The band’s debut album, R.E.V.O. was released in March of 2013, though the group continued to capitalize on the success of its covers.
