Founded in the early ‘80s, the band was influenced by the ever-growing punk sound along with the new wave of British heavy metal of the time. It was with their fifth Nothingface that the band had their most commercial success and only appearance on the Billboard 200. Voivod has gone through a number of line-up changes throughout its career. With founding members leaving and returning again. When founding member Denis D’Amour, better known as “Piggy,” passed away, the band released an entire album of work found on Piggy’s computer. Around this time the new line-up would include well-known bassist Jason Newstead of Metallica fame.

They are joined by Daniel Mongrain (“Chewy”) on guitar and Dominic Laroche (“Rocky”) on bass. Voivod has cited bands like Iron Maiden, Genesis and King Crimson amongst their influences. The unique blend of multiple styles of metal, along with other styles of music creates a unique sound and style all their own.
