See the award-winning trio live with Villalobos Brothers tickets. The Villalobos Brothers are multi-instrumentalists, composers and singer-songwriters from Mexico. They were raised in Xalapa and developed a love for music while listening to their grandmother perform at local restaurants. They began learning the violin as boys and went on to learn several other instruments including the guitar and piano. In the 90’s they studied classical violin under Carlos Marrufo Gurrutia, then composition under Eugeniusz Sleziak Kandora.

All child prodigies, the Villalobos Brothers gave early performances as youth with the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony Orchestras of both Cuba and Peru. The trio then pursued advanced musical studies at the Manhattan School of Music, Royal Conservatory of Brussels and Hochschule fur Musik Freiburg. Though classically trained, the brothers' style brings together many influences, in particular, that of Veracruz’s native Son Jarocho genre. They are known for their call-and-response compositions which build toward complex harmonies.

The Villalobos Brothers have received the US’ prestigious Fulbright Grant and Mexico’s National Medal in Music. They often collaborate with high-profile artists and institutions, most notably with the National Dance Institute and Dan Zanes.
