The Polish metal band was first formed in 1983 and was founded by bassist Piotr “Peter” Wiwcsarek and guitarist Zbigniew “Vika” Wroblewski. Over the years, Vader has had a number of line-up changes. Although they were labeled a death metal band in the early ‘80s, they eventually transitioned into thrash metal. They released their debut studio album, The Ultimate Incantation, in 1992. Since then, they have produced more than 11 other studio albums. Vader had a major career breakthrough after releasing Black to the Blind (1997), which won a Hard & Heavy Album of the Year nomination at the 1997 Fryderyk Awards.

The band’s follow-up album, Litany (2000), was nearly just as successful, receiving another Hard & Heavy Album of the Year nomination at the Fryderyk Awards. Since then, Vader has received several other nominations and a 2012 Fryderyk Award for Heavy Metal Album of the Year for their album Welcome to the Morbid Reich.
