The United States Curling Association sponsors both a men’s and a women’s national championship in curling. The winner of the championship is eligible to represent the United States in the World Championships if they also are in the top 75 ranked teams in the world over the last two seasons in the World Curling Order of Merit or have earned 40 points in the Order-of-Merit rankings year-to-date.
The men’s national championship was first held at the Chicago Stadium in Chicago, Ill., in March of 1957. The inaugural event was inspired by the MacDonald Brier in Canada and the management of the department store Marshall Field and Company sponsored the event. Marshall Field and Company were also the sponsors the next year before the fledgling USA Curling Association took over running of the event in 1959.
