See this world-renowned orchestra celebrating freedom of speech with Truth In Our Time tickets. This performance of the National Arts Centre Orchestra (NACO) is a tribute concert series to the journalist, and Canadian, Peter Jennings. The orchestra started in 1969 to be in resident at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Ontario. The current musical director Alexander Shelley won the Leeds Conductors Competition in 2005 and joined NACO in 2013 as the youngest Music Director in the orchestra’s history. This show takes place at the picturesque Roy Thomson Hall in downtown Toronto.
Truth In Our Time highlights four symphonic pieces that are intended to reflect the ideas of freedom of speech and the global pursuit of truth. The show will open with Nicole Lizèe’s Zeiss After Dark: SESQUIE for Canada’s 150th, a piece about perception and contemplation. The second piece is Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9 a satirical work filled with humor and intended to subvert the idea of autocratic rule. Korngold’s Concerto in D Major, Opus 35 for Violin and Orchestra will follow and feature a solo from Blake Pouliot, a young Canadian-born star violinist. The show will end with a work specially commissioned just for this series, Philips Glasses’ Symphony No. 13.
