The Tove Lo moniker was originally given to a young Ebba by her grandmother, due to her fascination with a lynx at the local zoo, the Swedish word for “lynx” being “lo”. Nilsson began writing songs before she was a teenager, and soon enrolled in Rytmus Musikergymnasiet, a music school in Stockholm. During her time in school, she became convinced that music was the path for her.

In 2011, Lo signed a publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music and was able to work with true musical heavyweights. Max Martin, one of her early collaborators, is responsible for an almost innumerable amount of hit records including “Oops… I Did It Again” by Britney Spears, “So What” by Pink, and “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry.
Tove Lo began to work on her own musical project even while becoming a successful songwriter and co-writing popular songs such as Girls Aloud’s “Something New” and Icona Pop’s “We Got the World”. Lo’s own music combines a raw lyrical honesty and a grunge-pop sonic aesthetic and stands out among other modern pop artists. Her first single “Love Ballad” was released in October of 2012 and followed up with “Habits” in March 2013. Though they were released independently, the singles garnered Lo a large online following. Her debut album Queen of the Clouds was released in 2014 and shot up to number 14 on the US Billboard 200. “Habits”, which was released as the first single from the album, made it to number three on Billboard’s Hot 100. The albums Queen of the Clouds, Lady Wood, Blue Lips, and Sunshine Kitty were all released between 2014 and 2020. Lo has also been involved with a number of high-profile songs,
including co-writing Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do”, and clearly plans to continue working at the top of her game.
