Enjoy great fusion music with Toure – Artist tickets. Guitarist and vocalist Boureima “Vieux” Farka Toure was born 1981 in Niafunke, Mali. He is the son of legendary Malian musician Ali Farka Toure, who pioneered the fusion style of American blues blended with Malian musical elements.
Toure was discouraged to pursue music as his father wanted him to carry on the family’s lineage of being in the military. Toure played the guitar in secret and then applied to the Institut National des Arts in Mali’s capital, Bamako. To produce his first album, Toure had to ask permission from his father, Malian kora player Toumani Diabate and other elders in the community. He released his self-titled debut album, with guest appearances on it by both Diabate and his father, on February 12, 2007.

In addition to solo work, Toure has worked with Israeli singer-songwriter Idan Raichel on two albums, beginning with The Tel Aviv Session in 2012 and then again with The Paris Session in 2014. Other highlights of his career are performing in the opening ceremonies at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
