Shortly after departing with the band, he joined another professional blues band called the “Alley Cats.” After performing along with several different bands, Ellis finally released his solo debut album, Georgia Blue, in 1988. Though the album was a moderate success and was signed to a decent record label, Ellis didn’t start gaining significant attention until after the release of his 1992 album, Trouble Time, which received a 2.5 out of 5 stars from The Penguin Guide to Blues Recordings. Before long, the talented songwriter appeared on NBC during the 1996 Summer Olympics, which provided him with further exposure.
