O'Brien was born in West Virginia in 1954 and found a love for music after listening to Bob Dylan records as a child. As a teenager, O'Brien learned to play the violin, guitar and mandolin and performed in small shows with his sister at local churches and coffee shops before graduating high school. 

O'Brien moved to Colorado in the early 1970s to pursue music full-time and performed and recorded music as part of the Ophelia Swing Band. In 1978 he created the band Hot Rize with fellow musicians Pete Wernick, Charles Sawtelle and Mike Scap. Hot Rize played traditional bluegrass music, and during the '80s, developed a reputation for their innovative sound and engaging live performances. In 1990 the band received the Entertainer of the Year award from the International Bluegrass Music Association, with O'Brien himself winning the award for Male Vocalist of the Year in 1993.

Tim O'Brien began releasing solo projects in 1991 and went on to win two Grammy Awards in the 2000s and 2010s. With Tim O'Brien tickets, you can see this masterful musician live on stage.
