After a long hiatus Throwing Muses was reformed in 2003 with the members Kristin Hersh (vocals, guitar), Dave Narcizo (drums), and Bernard Georges (bass). Despite a sound similar to The Pixies, Throwing Muses differentiated themselves with their bold approaches to rock. Utilizing multiple shifting tempos, obscure lyrics, and David Narcizo’s drumming without cymbals are just a few of the risks Throwing Muses take throughout their music. The band started from Hersh and her stepsister Tanya Donnelly’s songwriting in high school originally going by the name of “Kristin Hersh and the Muses”. David Narcizo would also join before their self-titled debut EP in 1984 despite never playing the drum kit before joining.

Multiple decades of producing amazing music have helped Throwing Muses tickets mature into must-see shows. Throwing Muses experienced high popularity during a period between 1987 and 1991 often on tour backed by bands like The Pixies. Their second studio album House Tornado was released in 1988 and distributed internationally through the label 4AD. The period ended in 1991 as Donnelly broke off to form the band Belly. The group continued to produce music as a trio reaching their peak of popularity with their 1995 album University. The song “Bright Yellow Gun” would become a national hit. In February of 2020, the group released their tenth album Sun Racket.
