Theatre of Hate was formed in 1980 in the wake of the break up of the punk band The Pack. They took their name from the term for the aesthetic concept of emotionally involving the audience, which they strive to do. The band released their debut single “Original Sin” that same year, which quickly rose to the top five on the UK Indie Chart. Theatre of Hate then released their debut album He Who Dares Wins through Burning Rome Records in 1981. 

The band enjoyed their greatest success with their album Westworld, which topped the UK Albums Chart and saw Theatre of Hate make their first appearance on the BBC’s Top of the Pops. Despite a brief hiatus in the late ‘80s, the band reunited in 1991 to release another slew of charting hits. They continue to tour widely to a dedicated cult following today.
