The Royale has since been staged at high-profile venues such as the Lincoln Theater Center in New York and the Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles.
Ramirez himself had already previously risen to fame for his critically acclaimed plays The Son and Orange is the New Black. He is the recipient of the Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize for Comic Playwriting as well as the American Theater Critics Association's M. Elizabeth Osborn Award.
