On the instructions of General Pershing (Scott Wakefield), who wanted highly trained telephone operators to ensure effective communication between the Allied forces in Europe, it was established in 1917. Of course, the finest operators at the time were women, so Pershing sought them out. The operators will also need to be fluent in French in order to coordinate with Ferdinand Foch's army, making Franco-American Louise LeBreton a shoo-in. The book was written by director Reichel and lyricist Mills, who provided a surprisingly deep historical perspective.
