The group's major creative force is powerful lead singer, Dan Vacon, driving the music forward alongside guitarist Bob Quaschnick, Brock Geiger on bass as well as newest member Matt Doherty banging on the drums replacing Scott Ross who left to pursue other endeavors. Their music style has been linked to the likes of Modest Mouse by critics, but the band members attribute their inspiration from Weezer, The Flaming Lips and The Descendents.
To some, The Dudes are a lo-fi guitar band, while others know them for their unique approach to recording and releasing albums coupled with an engaging live stage show. They released their debut album in 1996 entitled Joy to the World but didn't release their follow-up album until ten years later with Brain Heart Guitar, where they worked closely with producer Russ Broom. The Song "Dropkick Queen of the Weekend" from that album was featured in a Rogers Wireless campaign throughout Canada. Since then, they have been blowing up stages across North America and Europe, playing at huge festivals such as North by Northeast, COCA and Canadian Music week to name just three.
