The Detroit Cobras is all about making garage band music as most of their albums are covers of 1950s and 1960s pop, rock & roll and R&B, consisting of old songs selected from the record collections that they rearrange and perform. In 1998 The Detroit Cobras released their debut full-length LP, Mink, Rat or Rabbit. It was in 2001 that the band released their second album, Life, Love and Leaving. Both albums, which grew in popularity in the United States and the UK, contained only cover versions of popular songs from the 1960s.
The Detroit Cobras' first EP, Seven Easy Pieces, was released in 2003, followed by their third full-length LP, Baby. That third album was unique for them because one of the songs was an original titled "Hot Dog (Watch Me Eat)." Over the years, The Detroit Cobras have changed band members frequently, with the touring musicians usually dissimilar from the recording musicians. The band has toured throughout the United States and Europe, including appearances at festivals, including the Treefort Music Fest in Boise, Idaho.
