Paul Bettany captures his tics and quirky behavior perfectly with every gawky move and deadpan stare. Jeremy Pope effortlessly portrays the free-spirited Basquiat. Together, the two actors bring personality and depth to the stage that would be missing with lesser artists. Although the play is somewhat fictional, it is a moving performance with universal themes like art, identity and faith.
The production was so successful that plans were made to turn it into a movie. Bettany and Pope would again play Warhol and Basquiat.
