The Capris formed in 1958 in Queens, taking their name from the Lincoln Capri automobile. After recording “There’s A Moon Out Tonight,” the group disbanded due to low expectations for the single’s success. The song went on to enjoy widespread radio play in and around New York City, however, eventually rising to the level of a number three national hit. The Capris then reunited to tour widely across the US.

Despite a slew of lineup changes and hiatuses through the late 70s, The Capris again achieved fame through their hit “Morse Code of Love.” The Manhattan Transfer covered the song on their Bop Doo-Wopp album, and “Morse Code of Love” became a charting hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Adult Contemporary chart.
