Mac often tackles themes such as identity and conformity, nostalgia and change and humor in the midst of suffering.
Mac is perhaps most known for his 24-Decade History of Popular Music, a 24-hour concert that catalogs the musical history of the United States. The performance earned rave reviews and was a contender for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Mac has received numerous awards and accolades, most notably the MacArthur Genius Grant, the Guggenheim Award and the International Ibsen Award.
