Leonard was born the daughter of Bishop Fritz Cobbs, who founded Jesup New Life Ministries. She began to lead worship during service. Her solo career started when Leonard released her debut studio album Smile, released independently. EMI Gospel, upon hearing the album, then approached her.
Her EP Grace was released on February 5, 2013. Besides appearing on the Billboard 200, the EP peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. Leonard also had two No. 1 Gospel singles spawned off the EP with “Break Every Chain” and “For Your Glory.” She would then win the Grammy Award for Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance in 2014.
