First formed in Paisley, Scotland in 1968, the group has featured a number of different lineups over the decades but has always featured founders guitarist-vocalist Roy Gullan and flutist Phil Smillie. They rose to fame as one of the first major groups to incorporate the Great Highland Bagpipe into their music. 

With the release of their debut album, Are Ye Sleeping Maggie, in 1976 the group kicked off a long career as pioneers of modern Scottish music. After signing with Green Linnet Records, they released 1986’s Land of Light where they were joined by legendary fiddler Dougie MacLean on a number of tracks. They have joined forces with many popular Scottish musicians on their music, including on 1990’s Cullen Bay where cittern-player Stuart Morison was featured. The group was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame in 2011 and has continued to consistently record and tour.
