The Tanglewood Festival Chorus was created by conductor John Oliver in 1970 and gave their debut concert later that year performing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Boston’s Symphony Hall. In 1994 the chorus embarked on their first series of international tours in Hong Kong and Japan on invitation by BSO conductor Seiji Ozawa. Four years later they would sing in the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics.
The chorus involves more than 200 volunteer singers and gives a number of yearly performances including their prolific Christmas Pops concerts each holiday season. The Tanglewood Festival Chorus has produced several celebrated recordings with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, most notably for the soundtracks to Saving Private Ryan and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
