Founded in 1963, the Tacoma Youth Symphony was the product of an arts festival that was held by the Tacoma Arts for Youth Council. The 28 original students dedicated themselves to practicing and preparing a tremendous concert, which was performed on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Since this original concert, the group has expanded tremendously, and today, the ensemble is a selective audition-only group.
