The musician began playing piano by ear as early as age four and he began taking lessons and learning general music theory at a Toronto choir school. Goodyear went on to study and graduate from the Glenn Gould School at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music at age fifteen. He further studied at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, as well as the Julliard School in New York where he studied with Oxana Yablonskaya and earned a master's degree in piano performance. The pianist is perhaps best known for performing all 32 Beethoven sonatas in one day, a feat he has completed at multiple venues including The Mondavi Center in Davis, Calif., and Memorial Hall in Cincinnati, Ohio.
