The band plays in the music genres of glam metal and hard rock. Steelheart's debut full-length LP titled Steelheart was released in 1990, was a hit with critics and the buying public. Their sound was compared to Led Zeppelin as well as to other popular metal artists such as Ratt and Whitesnake.
The album charted at No. 40 on the Billboard 200, with the band quickly gaining international acceptance, especially in Japan. The album went platinum, with the single ballad "She's Gone," going all the way to No. 1 on the international charts, and another song, "I'll Never Let You Go (Angel Eyes)," hit No. 14 on the Billboard charts. The band has released other LPs and singles through the years, including the album Through Worlds of Stardust in 2017 and the single "My Freedom" in 2020.
