Darren “Young D” Metz, an aspiring rapper and longtime friend of Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce, shared a desire to start something original, bringing more than a little glamour to the forefront of the rap-rock community. Impressively, their 2017 album The Average Savage earned the saucy creators a pop of colorful awards: 2018’s Polaris Music Prize and 2019’s Juno Award for Indigenous Music Album of the Year at the Juno Awards.

Altogether, the duo has received nominations for Best Hip Hop Album at the Indigenous Music Awards and Indigenous Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards. Their third LP Trapline was shortlisted for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize.  

Metz, an avid poet and Nyce, a vivid storyteller met in high school and instantly bonded over their love of hip/hop music. Upon graduating, Metz enrolled in the Harbourside Institute of Technology. He began recording beats with his musical sidekick for a project he was assigned during an audio engineering program. 

The duo is widely recognized for their hit singles “The Warriors,” “Real Deadly” and “Cops with Guns Are the Worst!!!” They have released a total of three full-length albums, one EP, six singles and one compilation album.
